For smoothie regulars

You know your way around a blender

So we'll skip Smoothie 101 and tell you what's different about Menomix before your first sip does.

  1. 01

    It's less sweet

The flavor comes from the ingredients (cinnamon, vanilla, a little ginger), so your fruit does the sweetening. A date or a ripe banana fixes it fast.

  2. 02

    It's thicker

Each scoop carries 6g+ of fiber, and fiber soaks up liquid. It keeps thickening as it sits, so drink it within about 10 minutes or add a splash more milk.

  3. 03

    Use 12–16 oz of milk

That's more than most powders ask for. Dairy, soy and pea milk add protein of their own. Coconut is lighter. Almond and oat bring barely any.

  4. 04

    Blend a little longer

Give it a full 30 to 45 seconds. Milk goes in first, then Menomix, then frozen fruit, so the powder doesn't stick to the sides.

  5. 05

    Ease in on the fiber

If your usual powder is light on fiber, start with half a scoop for three or four days, then go to a full one. Drink a glass of water alongside.

  6. 06

How it differs from protein powder

A protein powder covers protein. Menomix adds 6g+ of fiber and 10 plants to its 21g of protein, so one glass covers all three. That's also why it's thicker and less sweet.

  1. 01

    Choose one to try

Go with the fruit you already like.

  2. 02

Set it up the night before

Blender on the counter, Menomix beside it, fruit in the freezer.

  3. 03

    Try it three mornings

Morning 1, make it as written. Morning 2, change one thing: thicker, thinner, sweeter, tarter. Morning 3, make it again, your way.

(Mornings are our favorite, but noon and 3pm work too. Menomix doesn't check the clock.)

Starting from scratch

We'll start easy

If you've never been a smoothie person, you're in very good company. Some of our most devoted customers started right where you are.

  1. 01

    What you actually need

Menomix, a blender, 12–16 oz of a milk you like (dairy, soy, pea or coconut) and frozen fruit you already love. Any blender works; around 600 watts handles frozen fruit. No blender yet? Shake it with milk in a bottle for now.

  2. 02

    The basic formula

1 scoop Menomix + 12–16 oz milk + a big handful of frozen fruit. Blend. Every recipe we make starts here.

  3. 03

    Half a scoop is fine

If your gut isn't used to much fiber yet, use half a scoop for the first few days, then build up to a full one.

  4. 04

    Make it yours

Too thick, add milk. Too thin, more frozen fruit or a few ice cubes. Not sweet enough, a date or riper fruit. Too sweet, a squeeze of lemon.

Your first smoothie, in two minutes
  1. 0:00Pour 12 oz of milk into the blender.
  2. 0:15Add one scoop of Menomix (or half).
  3. 0:30Add a big handful of frozen fruit.
  4. 0:45Blend 30 to 45 seconds, until there are no streaks.
  5. 1:30Taste it. Fix it with milk, fruit or a date.
  6. 2:00Drink it. You made a smoothie.

“One thing I tell every woman who's new to this: you don't have to love protein powder. Menomix is an ingredient, and we're finding you a smoothie you enjoy.”

No blender? No problem

Shake it and go

When traveling, or on mornings when a blender is too much, a shaker bottle or a jar with a tight lid does the job.

  1. 01

    Milk in first

Pour about 12 oz of cold milk into the bottle. Liquid first keeps the powder from caking on the bottom.

  2. 02

    Then one scoop

A full scoop of Menomix, or half if fiber is new to you.

  3. 03

    Shake hard for 30 seconds

Let it sit a minute, then give it one more shake. It thickens as it sits, so sip it soon.

  4. 04

    Easy first tries

Chocolate milk or coconut water make a very friendly first glass. Chocolate milk tastes like a treat, and coconut water is lighter with a little natural sweetness.

It'll be thinner than a blended smoothie, and that's fine. Go bigger when you're ready.

Your first morning

Tomorrow's the first one

  1. 01MenomixOne scoop. Half, if fiber is new to you.
  2. 0212–16 oz of milkDairy, soy, or pea. (Why these? because they bring even more protein.)
  3. 03Frozen fruitA big handful of whatever you love.
  4. 04Blend and adjustTaste it, then fix it. Thicker, thinner, sweeter.

Nobody nails the first one. Treat it as a draft.

Haven't gotten a blender or fruit yet? Just shake a scoop with milk in a bottle on your way out the door. Here's how. Go bigger when you're ready.

If something's off

Most fixes are one small change

Find the one that sounds like you.

It's too thick

Add milk a splash at a time and blend 10 more seconds. The fiber keeps thickening as it sits, so make it a little thinner than you think you want, and drink it within about 10 minutes.

It tastes too earthy, or not sweet enough

Add a date, half a ripe banana or riper fruit. Mango, pineapple and cherries bring the most sweetness. Grainy? Blend the milk and Menomix first, then add the fruit and blend a full 30 seconds.

My stomach is adjusting

Some bloating in the first week is common when fiber goes up. Your gut bacteria are suddenly getting a lot more to eat, and they need a few days to catch up. Drop to half a scoop for three or four days, drink an extra glass of water, then build back up. If it's still uncomfortable after a couple of weeks, check in with your doctor.

My blender isn't cutting it

Gritty bits or frozen chunks usually mean a small blender working hard. Let the fruit sit out for five minutes, put the milk in first, and pulse before you blend. No blender? Shake a scoop with milk in a bottle. It's thinner, but it works.

I don't love my recipe

Change one thing at a time: swap the fruit, switch the milk, add a spoon of nut butter. Smoothie School builds a recipe for you one tap at a time.

My mornings keep getting away from me

Keep the jar next to the coffee so it's the first thing you see. Set the blender up the night before. On rushed days, shake a scoop with milk and go. And noon or 3pm count too.

Why Menomix is built this way

Built to nourish, not restrict

In midlife, your body needs more protein to hold on to muscle, more fiber for steady energy and digestion, and more plant variety to feed your gut. Menomix gives you a real start on all three before the day gets busy.

21gProtein

Toward 30g at a meal, the amount that helps you keep muscle as you age.

6g+Fiber

Toward 30g a day. Most women get about half that.

10Plants

Toward 30 different plants a week, the variety your gut bacteria do best on.

What it adds up to: you stay full until lunch instead of hunting for a snack at 10. Your energy holds steady through the afternoon, cravings ease off, digestion gets more regular, and you're feeding the muscle that keeps you strong and moving for all the years ahead.

We call it 30-30-30: 30g of protein a meal, 30g of fiber a day and 30 different plants a week. It's a direction, not a rulebook. There's no counting and nothing is off-limits.

Caitlin built Menomix around it after thirty years of watching women try to eat less, when what most of them needed was more of the right things.
